Tablet Remote: Control One Android Device With Another via Bluetooth

Tablet Remote is a handy little Android app that lets you remotely control one Android device, be it a smartphone or tablet, with another over Bluetooth. Imagine the facility of remotely controlling media functions of your Honeycomb Tablet, or troubleshooting a problematic Android device through another without the involvement of cables, an internet connection or a desktop client. With an extremely simple configuration process yet a comprehensive set of remote control options, TabletRemote is inarguably one the most feature-rich and easy-to-use apps of its kind that we’ve come across so far. What could the app possibly be used for, you ask? The image above is an excellent example of its practicality. If you have an Android Tablet or phone with an HDMI output port (Motorola Xoom, HTC EVO 4G), you can connect it to your TV, and control the output from the comfort of your couch. To control one device with another, Tablet Remote must, of course, be installed on both.

All you need to do in order to establish a successful connection between two devices is enable Bluetooth on both of them, and pair them with each other. For this, you need to launch the app on both the devices, tap Connection > Scan Devices, and finally hit Make Device Discoverable. From the list of detected devices, select the required device, and a confirmatory message will appear on the other one. Hit Accept to pair both devices.

Bluetooth is activated for 120 seconds (2 minutes) by default. This time limit can be removed by navigating to your device’s Bluetooth settings screen (tap Menu > Wireless & networks > Bluetooth settings), and setting the Discoverable timeout to Never.

The last caveat before you can eventually begin the controlling mechanism is to hit the Setup button on the controller device, and enable both the options included therein, namely Enable Tablet Remote In The Settings and Change The Input method For Tablet Remote.

Now that you’ve paired both devices, just hit the Remote button on one device to start controlling the other with it. The screen that follows packs various buttons that can be used to control media functions (play/pause, next, previous, etc), adjust volume and brightness levels, navigate to different screens, and control the target device in whatever way you please. Apart from the aforementioned controls, the screen also sports buttons for Back, Home, Menu, Search and text input (keyboard).

To switch to fullscreen, enable the Hide Status bar option from within the app’s Settings menu.

The remote control mechanism of Tablet Remote was successfully on HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z. The target device (the HTC Desire Z) respond flawlessly to commands from the controller (HTC Desire HD). The remote commands even kept working while the target device was on standby (that is, after its screen had timed out).

How to Overclock Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE To 1.9Ghz

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE gets a 1.9Ghz overclock! This comes in straight after the device was rooted by XDA-Developers forum memberDa_G who is also responsible for this OC kernel as well. 1.9Ghz is huge, but before you get excited, you need to be aware that this is meant for the 8.9 LTE SGH-i957 model and not the 73XX Tegra 2 powered 8.9 models.

Enabling 1.9Ghz on your Tab is as easy it was rooting the device. What you have is a custom kernel that you can flash after you have rooted your device using Da_G’s rooted kernel. 1.9Ghz is not much stable when running benchmarks, but if you’re familiar with the likes of SetCPU or CPUMaster, you can lower the clocks a bit and find the right sweet spot for your tablet.

5. Now put the tablet in Download mode by holding the Volume Up and Volume Down key along with the Power button, letting go of the power button as soon the device turns on. Hit the Volume Up key once the warning shows.
6. Connect the device to the PC and once it shows connected in ODIN, hit the Start button to begin flashing the kernel.
7. Once the kernel is flashed, the device will reboot itself.

How To Root Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE

The LTE Version of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 has finally been rooted. This breakthrough comes in from XDA-Developers forum member Da_G who has made rooting the device as easy as flashing a kernel a via ODIN. Once the kernel is flashed, you will have complete root access on the LTE enabled tablet.

Before we head straight onto the rooting instructions, you should know that this will void your warranty by tripping your Flash Counter. Now that you understand what you’re dealing with here, let’s get our hands dirty.

• Samsung USB drivers.

• Da_G’s modded kernel.

Instructions:

Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb Update Roll out for HTC EVO View 4G Tablet by Sprint

Good News for all HTC EVO View 4G user that their system software is been updated to Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb. Eventually the HTC EVO View 4G was running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and now it will taste like Honey with 2.3.1 Honeycomb. Few enhancements and fixes has been updated and rolled out by the Sprint. HTC EVO is a 7 inch tablet with capacitive touchscreen with 5MP camera and 1.3 MP front camera. It comes with 32GB memory with no expandable memory slot. Now these tablet from HTC going to compete with other Honeycomb tablets like Samsung Galaxy tabs, Motorola Xoom, Asus transformer prime etc. Let’s see what are the features that had been updated in HTC EVO View 4G.

The HTC tablet has been updated with version 2.23.651.1 today. The past update was on security fixes and that was version 1.22.651.2 and that was rolled out in October 10. Now the update 3.2.1 Honeycomb has new virtual and holographic user interface. Few updates have been listed below:

1. New onscreen soft keys have been replaced with physical hard keys.
2. Now you will find new Google search option in every page.
3. Changes have been done in system bar where Quick access to notifications, status, and soft navigation buttons are available at the bottom of the screen where the notification bar is moved to bottom right corner of the screen.
4. Now access the action bar by touching the plus sign icon at the top right of the screen.

Fixes

• The Google video chat has been fixed.
• Earlier in the Airplane mode the Bluetooth was not running and now it has been fixed and is capable to transfer data through Bluetooth.

Note: Remind you that all the personalized widgets, apps, wallpapers, screen layouts will be vanished because of updation that is about 217 MB. You can gain them back after the HTC tablet is updated to new version.

How to Update 3.2.1 Honeycomb in HTC EVO View 4G:

Step 1: First you must need to check the update version by taping the Menu from Home screen then settings, after that scroll up and tap on About tablet. Now tap on the software informationwhere you can view the software number and if it shows the old version (2.3 Gingerbread) than its time to get updated.

Step 2: Follow the step 1 up to system updates and then tap on HTC software update.

Step 3: On that screen tap on Check now to get the updates.

Step 4: You will get system update available on the screen then select Download via any available data connection or Download via Wi-Fi or cable only and tap OK.

Step 5: Now tap yes when you see a Data fee warning screen.

Step 6: In the notification panel an updatation icon will appear that is the indication that the tablet is getting updated.

Step 7: Now at the Install system software update screen, tap the Install now or Install later to complete the software update. After that tap on OK.

Step 8: Fret not! Your system will blackout means its turn off and a green arrow will appear for few minutes.

Step 9: The tablet will reboot automatically and now hurry you system is updated with 3.2.1 Honeycomb.

Step 10: The System software update confirmation screen will then appear and tap on OK.

How to Upgrade System Software in Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1:

All these above were the enhancements and fixes and now it’s time to get these updates into your tablet. This up gradation will be over the air and the download and installation will take 10-15 minutes. You must not use your tablet during the process because it may or may not catch the updatation. The software update size is approximately 351MB. All these were the information you will keep in mind and now will ask how will you know that your system needs updation? You need to check of your own manually.

Step 1: Application->Settings-> About Device ->Software update-> Update (WiFi must be enabled).

Step 2: Select ‘Restart & Install’.

Step 3: After selecting it the device will turn off and turn on automatically and the installation process will get started. Below is the screenshot when the system gets back after shutting down.

The above process was manual and if the system update notification is on then close your eyes and just quickly tap on the pop-up notification and then ‘Install now’.  Please remember that not to tap on ’Install later’ because it will delay installation and you will be taken back to the home screen and periodically the update message will pop up every time until you install the update (if the notification automatically selected).

Roaming Software Upgrade:

In case you are out of the state with your tablet, means if it is in roaming then you will not receive the system update notification. You have to manually update it by going to Home-> Application->Settings-> About device->System updates. And if you forgot to turn on your WiFi then to enable it you must go to Settings->Wireless & networks->Tap Wi-Fi to enable. Fret not if the installation goes wrong, just calm down if you see error screen. However, the installation fails by not installing properly and the system will return back to its original software and prompt the installation update of the system again.

How To Root Acer Iconia A100 Tablet

Acer Iconia A100 is a 7-inch A500 successor Android tablet that was released last month. Although Iconia A100 is the first 7 Inch tablet to come geared with latest Android 3.2 Honeycomb on board, but the screen issue along with bad finishing didn’t help in cultivating a mentionable user base. However there are folks who opted to go for this tablet and the Android development community isn’t ready to desert them altogether. Some industrious hackers have managed to gain root on this device through the standard ADB procedure. However it will be interesting to see if things move in direction of custom ROMs and kernels from this point onwards. So far only root has been achieved and there are no signs of a custom recovery. 

Here are the step by step instructions to root Acer Iconia A100 Android tablet:

Requirements:

• ADB
• SuperUser Binary
• Iconia A100 Drivers For PC

Instructions:
1. The first step is to make sure that you have ADB installed on your computer along with Iconia A100 drivers. Please check the links provided in requirements section for reference and downloads.
2. Once you have drivers and ADB setup on your computer, download SU binary zip file from above, extract the contents of the archive and save them on your desktop.
3. Now copy the SU file available in System sub folder in su-2.3.2-efgh-bin-signed and copy it to your tab’s /mnt/sdcard folder.
4. Once done, disconnect your tab from computer and enable USB debugging by going to Settings > Applications > Development and check mark USB Debugging.
5. Now reconnect your tab to the computer again and open command prompt and type ADB Shell.
6. Once you have a $ sign displayed, type the following commands:

adb shell /system/bin/cmdclient ec_micswitch ‘`mount -o remount,rw /system`’
adb shell /system/bin/cmdclient ec_micswitch ‘`cat /mnt/sdcard/su >/system/xbin/su`’
adb shell /system/bin/cmdclient ec_micswitch ‘`chmod 6755 /system/xbin/su`’

7. After you have executed these commands, download root checker app from Market and verify root on your device.
8. Once root is positively verified, download SuperUser app from Market.
